Healthy Eating Policy


As a childcare club it is our duty to promote healthy eating among all children attending the club.

This policy and the methods for implementing it will be continually monitored and reviewed at least annually.

It is the responsibility of the manager and the leader to ensure that the healthy eating policy is adhered to.

It is the responsibility of all staff to maintain the healthy eating policy.

  1. There should be a set routine for snack time at the club

  2. Children should sit together as a group to eat. This will encourage them to take part.

  3. Children should not be allowed to wander around with food or drink

  4. The children must wash their hands before sitting down to eat

  5. Staff should act as good role models and wash their hands before preparing or serving food

  6. The food should be healthy and varied in order to meet the nutritional needs of the children

  7. Special dietary needs e.g. for health or cultural reasons should be catered for

  8. Fresh fruit should be provided each day

  9. Once the snack time is over the tables should be cleared and thoroughly cleaned with an anti-bacterial cleaner. The area around the tables should also be cleaned e.g. floor swept

  10. Fresh drinking water should be available throughout the whole session

  11. The children should be encouraged to make healthy choices about
    food in order to promote healthy eating

  12. The children should not be allowed to eat sweets, chew gum or drink canned or bottled drinks (apart from water). while at the club or while being escorted to the club 

  13. Staff should act as good role models and not chew gum, eat sweets or drink canned or bottled drinks (apart from water) while at the club or when carrying out school runs
